| Before you start YOUR project car, PLEASE read below what a true gentleman named Dan explained to me via an online newsgroup. READ it, DIGEST it and only THEN, make your decision! This simple advice may save you more than your pride!
Fred, it's your money, your car, and your future. But, if you're asking for advice, please, . . . . listen to what I have to say. I've been restoring and building antiques and hot rods for thirty-five years. I've owned dozens and enjoyed hundreds of cars and pickups of every size, style and configuration. Every time I pick up a publication to look at the classifieds; whether it's Hot Rod©, Car and Driver©, Motor Trend©, Street Rodder©, Deals on Wheels©, Wheeler Dealer©, or Mopar Collector's Guide©, Car Craft©, and on, and on, and on, . . . . I always wonder at the ones where some poor schmoe is trying to sell what appears to be a really nice sedan, done in some wild color combination, with all the amenities of the sedan culture, or a pickup truck with all the stuff endorsed by the three and a half-ton culture, or the out-of-date, crushed-velour upholstery culture, or the four hundred eighty five button tufted interior culture, or the self-appointed automotive engineer who's got the rear suspension with BOTH traction bars, AND wheelie bars culture, or the gauges on the hood culture, or the metal flake camouflage paintjob, . . . . and I wonder, . . . . in amazement. How is he EVER going to sell that big POS?? Take your time, go it slow, learn all you can learn about your own tastes, what you like and don't like, in AN OVERALL view of your dream car, and then go build it. It may, or may not, be your caddy sedan Deville. More than likely, you'll find something else. Something in keeping yourself close to the dollars you'll have to spend, and the ultimate recoverability of those same dollars, as an investment, when you go to sell, or need the investment to move on to other projects in your life. But, what ever you do, don't do something stooooooopid, like starting to spend those dollars on a project that will end up looking like many others on the classified pages of those magazines. And, whatever you do, DON'T spend a lot of money, until you know how safely that money is invested, and what, exactly, you can expect to recover, in the event that the dream needs to come to an end. This 300Z was completed by Fred Luhn, Goldies' President. Before founding Goldie's Plating Service, Fred was an automotive stereo/alarm manager and hasn't lost his passion for car audio systems! Andy was also QUITE persuasive AND persistent. Doing the job personally, Fred was able to FINALLY get Andy off his back!! Haha!
The two cars pictured here are pet projects of team here at Goldies Plating. The first, a 1978 Cadillac Sedan De Ville will become the recipient of a killer sound system. The second, a 1978 Ford LTD Station Wagon will be the first car for Ryan, Goldies' youngest employee and soon to be college student. This page will follow the progress of these two behemoths as we slowly personalize them and bring them back better than ever! Stereo system installation was the first passion of Fred Luhn, Goldies' president, so it should be interesting to see how this Caddy turns out. Ryan wants a "college cruiser" that will haul him and all his friends wherever they want to go. Let's see what his ideas, along with the fresh perspective of being a new driver, yield when this battle cruiser is done!
